The USCCA is happy to announce two upcoming events in August 2026.
1) Thursday, Aug 20, 8-9:30 pm ET--Happy Hour panel discussion on Zoom: "The Digital Revolution and a Restless Heart: A Chinese Catholic Conversation on Pope Leo XIV's Encyclical." We will have four panelists gathered for a round-table discussion: Fr. Emanuele Angiola (Fu Jen Catholic University, Taipei), Mr. Victor Lam (IT Professional, Hong Kong), Fr. Joseph Ruan (Director of Chinese Apostolate, Archdiocese of NY), and Dr. Zeng Qi (theologian, Independent Scholar). These distinguished speakers include priests and laity, three theologians and one engineer, who come from the US, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. They will discuss both the exciting prospects of the Digital Revolution in the near future and the challenge of the restless heart amplified by the "omnipresent" digital consciousness. You will have an opportunity to ask questions in the Q/A segment. To sign up, click this link:
2) Saturday, Aug 22, 9-10 am ET--Book Circle on Zoom. We will begin our Fall semester Book Circle discussion of Sun Yanfei's book, Religious Change in Post-Mao China: Toward a New Sociology of Religion. We will meet once a month on a Saturday morning from August through December. This book explores the remarkable rise of Protestantism, the challenges faced by Catholicism, the revival of Chinese popular religion, the complex dynamics of Chinese Buddhism, and the unrealized potential of new religious movements. It will give us an excellent picture of past evolutions and current dynamics in the Chinese religious landscape. If you are interested, please sign up using this link:
